PlayerLink was formulated in 1987 for a group of amateur and professional golfers who traveled to play matches all over the world. Because of the diversity of locations and the contest format, they needed a system with electronic speed that could be open for peer review. As a result, in 1996 a website was created that allowed public access. A new Playerlink debuted in 2000, adding some personalized options to track a player’s game, as well as a streamlined navigation system making it easier than ever to use. This is a network world and golf is a network game. No advertising or notice to any of the Internet directories was ever undertaken. Players find the site through fellow golfers or while surfing online. The user base grew from 97 players the first year to nearly 60,000 golfers and continues to grow exponentially. Playerlink has become popular and trusted at most places that golf is played. It is time to go on to the next step of becoming the leading online golfer support system. We have had a lot of good suggestions for new features that will enhance the players’ enjoyment of his or her golf experience and some of these are ready to go. The center of gravity for all of the new applications is founded on relationships that were developed with the golf courses over the years, but to harness the network power that PlayerLink has earned will require more management than has been necessary in the past. This means money will be spent. What we have decided to do is to lay out a golf club format and offer a special membership to players who want access to the total package.
We are naming this segment of the golf association:
